Avery is nervous about her first day of school. She is afraid that her scar will make her stand out and other kids won’t accept her. Her parents help her to embrace her difference and have the courage to face her fears. This book follows her emotions through every step that she takes to face what she fears most, being different and disliked for it. In the end when she finds the courage to tell the students about herself she discovers that the only one who cared about her scar was herself.
