Las mil y una noches es una recopilaci n de historias inspiradas por la tradici n oral, cuya relevancia fue curiosamente marginal dentro del contexto de la literatura rabe medieval. No obstante, a ella le debemos la fascinaci n por lo oriental que surgi a partir del siglo XVIII gracias a estudiosos como Antoine Galland, el autor de la primera traducci n al franc s, o exploradores como Richard Francis Burton, que la tradujo al ingl s respetando el alto contenido er tico de la obra.

This collection of stories is inspired by oral tradition, which occupied a marginal position in medieval Arab literature. Still, these stories played a major role in the eighteenth-century fascination with Eastern culture, made possible by translations of the work–into French by Antoine Galland, and into English by Richard Francis Burton.
