Based on author Karen Joy’s personal experiences, Diary of a Pimp’s Wife chronicles the trials and tribulations of an up-and-coming pimp named AZ from 2008 through 2013 when he lived in Long Island, New York with her as his then common-law wife. Prior to becoming a pimp, AZ worked one dead-end job after another. He even tried to become a rapper. Nothing worked for him until the summer of 2008 when his love for money led him into a dangerous, treacherous pimp game. During this time, the couple separated to pursue different dreams. While she strived to build a country club, he trained to be a ruthless pimp.
As his common-law wife, the author witnessed his descent into the pimp game, starting with Shi, a charismatic Filipino exotic dancer, and followed by Nina, a rebellious teenager from a troubled background. Despite the author’s attempts to save these women and protect her investment in a country club, she finds herself entangled in AZ’s world of manipulation and deceit.
